Second Sundays with Decoda--Episode 4: The Subtlety of Abstract Art and Politics

Live Zoomcast: Sunday, June 13 at 4pm ET

This week, Decoda explores the rich sound world of woodwinds and double bass in a program that features a premiere by Delong Wang performed by Decoda double bassist Kris Saebo. We will also hear music by Alice Jones performed by clarinetist Paul Cho, and witness the official premiere of Lembit Beecher's incredible stop-motion animation with original music written for Decoda members Brad Balliett, Paul Murphy, and Laura Weiner. In a program that touches on creativity in the pandemic and the subtle art of political action through contemporary music, we include the wildlife conservation driven performance of Oystercatcher by Artistic Director and composer Brad Balliett. Finally, the program will end with a performance of Gounod's sun-drenched Petite Symphonie for winds.

This episode is part of Second Sundays with Decoda—our free interactive Zoomcast dedicated to amplifying works by an eclectic and thrilling array of new composers! Hosted live by Artistic Directors Brad Balliett and Paul Murphy, each episode features new pieces written for Decoda musicians, conversations with composers, and special performances from our archives, alongside a healthy dose of fun, games, and audience interaction.
